Ariana Grande shows her love and condolences for all of Manchester through her new single “No Tears Left To Cry”. The popstar had not released any singles since the tragic May 2017 attack at her concert, resulting in 22 fatalities and 59 injuries. Her song’s lyrics are a tribute to those whose lives were lost, those who were hurt, and those who had friends and family who were involved. The song is definitely a hit, however, the message the song expresses is what is making everyone teary eyed as they listen to her voice. Her lyrics, “Ain’t got no tears left to cry, so I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up”, stand out the most. It alludes to her speaking out to everyone listening that you must rise and remain courageous, even when the world around you seems to be gloomy and frightening.
In the music video, she is seen changing in and out of many costumes, and even though the Manchester bombing is not directly spoken about, her lyrics say it all. At the end of the video, a worker bee flies into the camera, which is supposed to hint at Manchester, since the bee is a symbol of their city.
In June 2017, Grande held a benefit concert to raise money, spread awareness, and pay her respects to the city and the families. The concert was successful, raising $3 million for the British Red Cross. In an interview, she explained that after the incident, she and her team decided to continue the tour, because she and everyone involved felt that they were extremely lucky to be living on Earth, and that every day should not be taken for granted. They felt by continuing the tour, they would be sending a message to others that life is precious, and every day should be lived to the fullest. Grande felt she was lucky enough to bring happiness to others and would continue to do that for as long as she was able to.
